Welding Materials Cobalt-Based Welding Rod

Stellite-equivalent Co-Cr-W bare cast rods and coated electrodes for manual & automated hardfacing.

This series of Co-Cr-W based hardfacing electrodes cover classic grades Stellite 6, 12 and 21, available in bare cast rod and coated electrode types.

Bare cast rods fit oxy-acetylene welding, TIG and PTA hardfacing with dense pure deposits for precision workpiece processing. Coated electrodes suit manual arc welding without extra shielding gas, enabling flexible on-site repair for large workpieces.

Each grade has targeted performance: Stellite 6 features balanced wear, corrosion and thermal fatigue resistance; Stellite 12 delivers higher hardness for heavy wear conditions; Stellite 21 boasts superior toughness, corrosion resistance and thermal shock performance. Widely applied to valves, pumps, forging dies, oil tools and rolling mills, they effectively extend workpiece service life under complex conditions.

Application Notes

How to Specify & Apply

1

Identify the Service Envelope

Determine the dominant wear mode (abrasion, erosion, adhesion, corrosion, oxidation), operating temperature and impact load. This narrows the grade selection to 2-3 candidates.

2

Match the Process

Each grade is validated for specific deposition processes. The "Application Process" field above shows HVOF, HVAF, APS, PTA, LMD, OFS or CAW compatibility.

3

Choose the Particle Size

Particle size controls deposit density and surface finish. Fine cuts (15-30um) for thin dense coatings; coarser cuts (45-90um) for thick build-up and high deposition rate.

4

Request a Sample

Most grades ship with a 1-2 kg sample for in-house process qualification. Our engineers will support parameter development on your equipment.
